Adley loved every minute of her letter-learning activities over the past year. She is such an eager learner. In March, we completed the last three letters of the alphabet.
LETTER X
The letter-sound activity for X focused on words that ended with X. I love the practice that Adley gets with saying and listening to her letter sounds in this activity.
Then, we did a few worksheets that involved drawing X's. The first was a beginning subtraction activity. Adley was so proud when she got the hang of this! She's still working on how to write all of her numbers, but she understood the concept of subtracting quite well.
The next activity involved drawing an X over the picture that was different in each row.
Adley created a xylophone for her tactile letter book page.
We continued the xylophone theme by "composing" our own songs on the xylophone. First, Adley filled in the colors that she wanted on her song sheet...
Then, she followed along with the songsheet and played her original composition. So fun!
We even ate a special xylophone snack!
Another day, Adley went on a letter X hunt around our home. She loved taking pictures of all the X's with Mommy's phone!
One of Adley's favorite letter X tasks was drawing patterns with different colored X's. Adley has always loved coloring and talking about what she calls "patt-er-ins." She filled up her entire paper with letter X patterns!
We also painted a fun negative space letter X collage. I loved how this project turned out!
For our final letter X activity, we discussed X-rays and made our own see-through light table (which is a liiiittle like an X-ray, right??). Our magnatiles looked pretty fun on our makeshift light table.
LETTER Y
Even though these remaining letters are a little less common, we still found many fun activities! We started with our typical letter-sound page. Adley definitely has gotten so much better at this activity since we started letter-learning a year ago.
Adley then helped me cut various lengths of yarn for her tactile letter book page.
Our next project was math related. We talked about the difference between an inch, a foot, and a yard and cut yarn lengths for each of these measurements. Then, we hypothesized which items around our house might be one inch, one foot, or one yard. Adley used the yarn pieces to test her guesses.
Another day, Adley had fun painting with yarn!
She also followed a large yarn maze that Mommy had created in the living room.
One of my favorite activities for Adley was reading the book Yummy, Yucky and then helping Adley write her own version of the book.
LETTER Z
For the letter Z, I printed off a "zoo activity book" for Adley. Every page related to animals-- matching animals with their shadow,
finishing patterns,
and counting animals.
We used zig-zag ribbon for Adley's tactile letter book page.
Then, we made a zebra puppet and learned a cute little song about zebras.
Last, Adley created a zoo with some of her stuffed animals.
She even did vet check-ups on all the animals.
What an adventure we've had learning letters this year! So proud of my girlie!
