Here are some of our family's happenings from March:
Birthday Celebrations
Adley's actual 5th birthday was on a day she had off from school, so we decided to plan something special. I gave her a list of possible outings, and she chose to go to the Children's Museum. She was so excited to finally be a "full hand!"
Grammy accompanied us to the Children's Museum, and we had a great time!
The museum was set up with a traveling Curious George display, so there were a few new hands-on activities to play with. Adley particularly enjoyed this block mover. It was fun loading up the blocks and watching them travel through the machine.
This Curious George window washer was also a hit with Adley. If she turned both dials correctly, she could get the Curious George character to pass by each window and light them up.
Grandpa actually celebrates a birthday in March as well, the day before Adley's. For his birthday this year, all three Schleicher sons treated their dad to a memorable day of sporting activities. The foursome played golf,
competed in tennis,
and ate at a restaurant while watching more sports. What a perfect day for all these athletic guys!
New Toys
Adley had a busy couple weeks following her birthday, testing out all her birthday presents! We were really impressed with this Paw Patrol painting set. Adley worked hard to get the pups' colors as accurate as possible. They turned out really cute, and she loved doing it.
Adley was REALLY excited to put these binoculars on her wish list. After receiving the binoculars, she was thrilled and wanted to use them right away on an outdoor scavenger hunt.
Adley has really been into building Lego sets recently, especially the more girl-directed Lego friends sets. She doesn't need any help assembling them anymore!
School Happenings
In early March, Jaden and Cody competed in their first PSIA (private schools' interscholastic achievement) district competition. They were both elected by their teachers to take the Maps, Graphs, and Charts test. We spent the several weeks leading up to this competition taking practice tests. The tests were much more complicated and multi-layered than I thought they'd be! Both boys did an excellent job and ended up taking 2nd (Cody) and 3rd (Jaden) in the competition, Cody's scores even qualified him to participate in the state competition. Woo-hoo! We were so proud of these hard-working boys! This photo was taken a few weeks following the competition at a school chapel service. All students earning ribbons (achieving 1st-6th place in their individual test) gathered for this post-chapel recognition.
On-Site Field Trip
In the spring, this Texas history group came to the boys' school and led an on-site "field trip" of sorts. All students from grades 3-5 divided into groups and attended various stations around the campus throughout the day. Both boys thought the information they learned was interesting and particularly enjoyed the break from normal classes for the day!
The boys' math teacher sent these photos to me one day as their classes were learning about geometry. This 3D object construction was a creative way to review various math terms.
Adley's preK class had a few special activities and dress-up days in March, mostly in celebration of National Lutheran Schools' Week. Some of their special days included Crazy Socks and Hat Day,
Ice Cream Sundae Day,
Go Texan Day (complete with trail mix!),
and (Adley's favorite) Pajama Day.
Also as part of Lutheran Schools' Week, grades K-8 held a Grandparents' Day one Friday. Jaden and Cody were blessed to have all four of their grandparents drop in on their classes. Both of their classes did special activities with their grandparents (like games, word searches, and crafts).
The school also had a chapel service in which the students sang a couple of songs.
These boys are so blessed to have such wonderful grandparents and to have them live close by!
