Field Day is back! Due to COVID, this large-scale Field Day (combined with six other area Lutheran schools) had been cancelled for the past two years. We were so excited to hear that this special day was back on for the spring! I rearranged my Friday piano lessons for the day, so our entire family was able to travel downtown to see Jaden and Cody's events.
Jaden's first event was long jump. He had quite a few buddies participating in this event with him!
Participants in this event don't get an overall ranking, but rather just receive a ribbon with the length of their jump. Jaden did a great job and jumped 8' 6".
All the rest of the boys' events were at the track. Cody was up next with the 50 yard dash.
Cody and another runner were very close at the end, but Cody ended up eking out the first place win! We found out after the race that Cody's close competitor was actually a student in Ryan's class. This boy is actually going to play on the same basketball team with Cody, Jaden, and Ryan over the summer. How funny that the two boys met this way!
What a great run, Cody!
Jaden's 100 yard dash was next.
These boys sure are speedy! He won a first place ribbon as well. Woo-hoo, Jaden!
Cody was especially excited about participating in the sack race, an event that he had done (and loved!) back in 1st grade at his last field day. Jason did a great job of taking videos throughout the day, and Adley captured some shots on her camera too. ;) I love this pic of Cody's fan club!
Cody took an easy lead at the beginning... he had the hopping form down!
He continued to extend his lead throughout the race!
Another first place ribbon... way to go, Cody!
The boys' last events were shuttle runs with their classmates. They told us that they practiced baton hand-offs in PE during the weeks prior to Field Day. Their hard work paid off, as both teams passed off the baton well. Cody was the first leg for his team.
Their team won second place for the race!
Jaden was the second runner for his shuttle race.
Jaden's team also won a second place ribbon. Way to go, boys!
What a fun day to be outside, watch some competitive sporting events, and spend time with some great friends! We sure love Field Day!
