Because Adley's birthday fell so close to the Winter Olympics this year, we figured having an Olympic-themed party would be perfect. Adley was thrilled about the idea and enjoyed helping us prep for the party. She tested out several of the events-- downstairs bobsledding,
curling,
and the biathlon.
She also made an Olympic-ring table runner.
The night before the party, I made Adley's cake, borrowing heavily from Jaden and Cody's 4th birthday party, which was also Olympics themed. Adley was especially excited to see the torch!
By the time the party rolled around, we were ready to go.
House decorated... check!
Gift bags assembled, complete with a "Go for the Gold" bag of gold-wrapped candy.... Check!
Birthday girl dressed... Check!
Food chopped, thanks to Grandpa and Grandma... Check!
Adley's invitees this year included two of her cousins and a group of sweet kiddos we've been seeing at playgroup events all year. Adley was so excited about having all of her friends over! When the guests started to trickle in, we let them have some freeplay as we waited for the whole group to arrive.
When everyone came, we started the party events with a couple crafts. The kids wrapped paper towel tubes in foil to make Olympic torches...
... and then decorated their own Olympic flags. Quite a few of the kids chose a flag from our table centerpiece and tried to copy it. Other kids just created their own design.
Jaden and Cody were excellent helpers during this process and even squeezed in time to design a flag for themselves too!
After all the kiddos' flags were done, we took a group photo...
...and had the Parade of Nations. Jason played some Olympics music and announced each child's name. The kids proudly waved their flags and marched in a loop around our living room while the parents clapped.
Then, I had the kids recite a short athlete's pledge before holding their torches high and announcing, "Let the Games Begin!"
To Be Continued... :)
