The start of a new school year means a change of pace for Adley as well. The house is definitely much quieter and less active without her big brothers at home during the day. One benefit, though, of having just one child at home is that we can gear a lot of our activities specifically to Adley's age and interest level. Here are some things Adley and I have been up to lately...
K2 Academy
This gymnastics center has open gym for young kids once a week, so Adley and I met a friend there shortly after school started. Adley spent most of her time jumping on trampolines but enjoyed trying out the balance beams and foam pits as well.
Crafts
Adley is always up for doing something creative! We tried out some new painting tools (sponge-type swabs that my mom received from her stay at the hospital). Adley LOVES using any kind of paint!
We also tried out a fun collage idea that I had seen online. First, I gave Adley paper strips and had her practice her cutting. Using scissors is always a HUGE hit with Adley!
Then, Adley helped me squirt Elmers glue into lines on her paper. She added her paper squares in whatever order she wanted.
The end result was a pretty cool-looking collage. Adley was so proud of it and immediately asked to make another one!
Playdough Fun
Adley is always game for pulling out the playdough toys! On this particular day, we made playdough snakes, which Adley was very excited to show Daddy (since he doesn't like snakes at all!).
Library Storytime
I took Adley to a couple of storytimes at the library over the summer, but Jaden and Cody weren't super thrilled about sitting in on the event with all the little ones. Now that we're on our own, we're able to go much more regularly! We picked up Grammy to join us on this occasion too. Adley especially loves the rhythm activities (sticks, egg shakers, songs) that we do between stories.
The library recently revamped their children's area, so Adley always loves playing with all the toys there too. Her favorites are the magnetic letters, the coloring center, the dollhouse, and this puppet theater (which has a puppet for each letter of the alphabet!).
Baking
Adley is a great little helper in the kitchen! She wants to try everything "all by myself, Mommy!" We worked together to make these yummy cut-out sugar cookies. Adley loved the shapes that she could make with all the cookie cutters.
I certainly miss my boys when they're at school, but I've enjoyed this special time with my girlie too!
