100th Day of School
Cody and Jaden's kindergarten class celebrated 100 days of school by having each student bring in a project. The students were supposed to count out 100 items to display on a posterboard or T-shirt. Cody was excited to use marshmallows on a bright green-colored posterboard. He first counted out his treats by creating piles of 10.
Then, Cody carefully lined up the marshmallows into rows (his idea) and used Elmer's glue to affix the marshmallows to the posterboard. This took quite some time! Other than the very last row, when Cody asked, "Would you please help me squirt the glue? My hand is getting tired!," he did the entire project all on his own.
When we went shopping together for their project supplies, Jaden was excited to find colored jewels in the craft section of Wal-Mart. He decided to use these jewels to design a T-shirt. It was all Jaden's idea to arrange the jewels into the shape of a 100. Jaden was very proud to wear his special shirt on the 100th day of school!
Park Playtime
On one beautiful weekend day in February, we met up with cousins at a nearby park. The kids, of course, loved the playground equipment and the duck feeding (many thanks to Aunt Kim for thinking ahead and bringing bread to share!).
But their very favorite activity of the day was climbing and sliding on this huge pile of dirt! My mommy alarms were going off as I saw Jaden and Cody's pants (as well as their fairly new school shoes) get dirtier and dirtier. I'm not a big fan of messes... However, when my sister, a veteran mom of boys (who I regularly learn SO much from!), pointed out how much fun they were having, I knew it was important to let them continue. Their large smiles were pretty telling! And believe it or not, the dirt DID come out in the laundry. :)
Backyard Soccer
One of Cody and Jaden's recent go-to pastimes at home is playing soccer in our backyard. They often ask me to play with them, and the two of them will team up against me. I honestly try my hardest, and they always beat me! Now, that may not be saying too much, as I am no soccer player, but these boys really have improved their soccer skills over the past year. It's enjoyable to play with them!
New Bedroom Decor
Jaden and Cody spend most of their free time these days at the kitchen table-- drawing pictures, writing stories, coloring, creating books and other varieties of items (one of my favorites was the day Cody made a briefcase, complete with a handle and homemade paper money inside!). One day this past month, both boys decided that they wanted to decorate the walls in their room. Over the course of several days, they gradually added more and more pictures until the wall was filled to their liking. Here is the wall next to Jaden's bed.
His pictures contain characters from Lego Ninjago, PJ Masks, or Despicable Me.
Cody had to be a little more creative to determine how to decorate the wall and ceiling above his top bunk.
Cody's pictures primarily have minions or PJ Masks characters, but he also included a couple pictures from Lego Ninjago.
We always love seeing what new activities the boys will come up with next. One day after school recently, their teacher winked at me and joked, "It's too bad these boys aren't very creative!" We definitely agree that we have two very creative kiddos!
