Baseball Beginnings

After two seasons of soccer, we decided to give our boys a new athletic experience and try out baseball for the spring. Cody and Jaden were thrilled to find out that they, along with a handful of other 5 and 6-year-old boys, were placed on a team called the Red Sox. Their coach played baseball in college, so he is very skilled, and yet he is also wonderfully patient and has a good understanding of the boys' ages and abilities. Throughout February, the team met for practice 4 or 5 times to learn the fundamentals. They reviewed basic skills such as throwing and catching...

fielding ground balls...

learning which position plays where...

batting...

and even running bases.

Jason and I have really appreciated the coach's insistence on making sure his players learn the basics correctly, rather than focusing on how to win. Cody and Jaden have enjoyed the practices, although at first, they kept on asking, "When do we just get to scrimmage?" The boys have already learned so much, even after just a month of practice.

We're excited to see what this season entails for our little baseball players.
Go Red Sox!
