Grammy & Papa Help Out

Towards the end of July, Jason left for his second major trip of the summer-- a mission trip to Cross Lake, Manitoba. Since this trip lasted 10 days, Grammy & Papa graciously agreed to visit MT during Jason's absence so they could help out with the boys. Amy was SO grateful for their amazing assistance, their company, and their caring love for Jaden and Cody.

Amy was definitely spoiled by having two extra sets of hands to help care for the boys. Particularly when she came down with a rotten cold, Amy appreciated Grammy & Papa's presence. Most mornings when the boys awakened at an early hour, Papa and Grammy took the boys for a walk so that Amy could fall back into bed. Ahhh, what a treat! The boys loved the fresh air, too.

Amy's parents also took over the kitchen duties for most every meal. Grammy had a folder full of new dinner recipes for us to try. She and Papa would work together to cook these new meals, and they would often do all the dishes, too. Amy hardly had to step foot in the kitchen at all during their visit. What a gift! We certainly ate well and found some tasty "keeper" recipes, too.

The boys loved helping out with the meal preparations whenever they could. They had their first experience helping to shuck corn.

Cody's favorite part was chowing down!

As you can tell, he didn't seem to mind the uncooked corn.

Grammy & Papa also helped with the boys' regular routine throughout the day. Jaden and Cody loved eating breakfast with them.

Grammy & Papa also helped to distract the boys when Mommy wiped them up after meals. Instead of crying and squirming for Mommy, the boys were entranced by Grammy & Papa's famous chant. (Some of you may remember the entire Walquist clan loudly chanting this song for Ian a few years ago.)

This video gives you a flavor for Grammy & Papa's "Wipe Me Up" song and for Jaden & Cody's reaction.

By far, the boys' favorite part was when Papa & Grammy allowed them to participate in the song themselves!

"Pounding on the table and making noise are two of our favorite things!" say Jaden & Cody.

Jaden & Cody also enjoyed multiple story-times with Grammy & Papa.

What comfy laps they have!

Finally, Amy's parents also helped with a variety of around-the-house projects. One of the first accomplishments was nailing up sheet rock in our garage. Without the sheet rock, the wall was full of exposed nails, so this had been quite a dangerous area for the boys.

Grammy & Papa purchased the sheet rock and expertly fit it into our family van. Amy & her dad worked together to cut the sheet rock and nail it up while Grammy entertained the boys. Hooray for having this project complete!

Papa also tackled several outdoor projects for us. He chopped down a dead tree that had been behind our deck and then chopped up the stump, too. We had several other tree stumps in our yard that he axed below ground level. He then covered these areas with dirt and grass seed. What an improvement! Talk about an expert landscaper! :)

Later in the week, Grammy decided that she wanted to leave Amy with a spotless home. She and Papa worked together to clean nearly the entire household. Grammy even washed all of our windows! The house was definitely in a cleaner condition when Grammy & Papa left than when they arrived!

Amy's parents definitely both have a strong work ethic and a servant heart. Thanks, Grammy & Papa, for all you did to make our lives easier. Your help was such a blessing to us!

Still to come: Grammy & Papa may know how to work hard, but they sure know how to play hard, too. :)
