14 Months Old

Jaden, Cody -- our 14-month-olds

It's always enjoyable to look back at the previous month's update on our boys and assess how much they've changed. I'm sure we say it every month, but this past month truly did seem to be a month of physical growth. All of a sudden our boys seem much taller to us, and many friends have told us that Jaden and Cody look older, too. We agree! We're certainly proud of and thankful for our growing boys. Here are some of their latest updates.

SLEEPING HABITS

• Regressed a bit during vacation 
• Usually sleep from 7:30 to 4:30/5-ish, and then often rest with Mommy or Daddy until 5:30 or 6:00
• More nightly awakenings due to molar-cutting
• Still enjoy two daily naps, although it takes them longer to fall asleep for nap #1, so we will likely grow out of this nap soon 

EATING HABITS

• Still hearty eaters that LOVE their food :)
• Favorites: cantaloupe, strawberries, bananas, mac n' cheese, yogurt, cheese, anything with tomato sauce
• Cody learned to eat corn right off the cob. Jaden was more interested in rolling the cob around on his tray.
• Very sloppy drinkers from their sippy cups (goal for next month is to transition to straws)
• Weaned down to only one nursing time each day (in the morning)

LANGUAGE

• First Words! Jaden-- "Mama" and Cody "Shoes" (pronounced more like "oosh")
• Improved non-verbal communication (more pointing towards what they want-- snacks, toys, pacifiers, milk)
• Understand more complex commands like "Wash your hands" (they go right to the sink), "Time to go outside," and "Shoot a basket" 
• Can identify dogs in any storybook
• Love babbling in the stroller on walks and in the car after we attend an event

PLAYTIME

• LOVE to climb (successfully climbed the bedroom ottoman, the bathtub, the Lego table, the musical table, cardboard boxes, our step ladder, and even the toilet seat!)
• Enjoy watching outdoor events from the window
• Unfortunately have frequent tugs-of-war and yelling matches over toys (sometimes these battles end in shoving or biting)
• Happiest when outside
• Inside activities: pulling out clothes from their cube organizer, banging with their wooden puzzles, opening & closing doors, playing Hide & Seek, hiding underneath blankets, playing with musical toys
• Enjoy picking up their musical i-Phone, punching buttons, and holding it up to their ear

CODY

• Loves being pushed quickly on his rider and going HIGH on the swings (our little budding daredevil?)
• Successful audiology screening and ENT appointment (no tubes in ears needed!)
• Will sit down when he doesn't want to be picked up
• When done drinking from his sippy cup at mealtime, he will insist that Mommy or Daddy take his cup rather than leaving it on his tray
• Most often seen running around downstairs with his rider
• Cut THREE molars this month!

JADEN

• Swats at the doorknob at bedtime when he doesn't want to sleep
• Loves playing with Mommy's ear when she is holding him
• When picked up after naptime, immediately starts pointing all over the place
• Has started mini-tantrums by stomping his feet and crying when he doesn't get his way
• Loves sticking his finger into Cody's mouth and will giggle & pull it out right before Cody shuts his mouth (Suddenly this game wasn't quite as fun when Cody actually bit him!)
• Laughs excitedly and flaps his arms whenever seeing a dog
• Cut tooth #8 this month (not yet a molar)
