Some of our family happenings from August:
Cousin Time
My kids enjoyed some bonus time with their cousins while my sister had her back-to-school teacher meetings early this month. One morning when my parents were watching my nephews, we all met at a park for some playtime. Even though it was quite hot, the kids loved their outdoor time together-- playing on the playground equipment, riding scooters around the park, pretending with Adley's doctor kit, and even playing some baseball on the ball field.
Another day, I watched all 6 kids at our place. The kids got along well and entertained themselves so nicely! Their favorite activities included playing soccer outside, planning and performing a play, and creating JIRC-NA cards (their own version of Pokemon cards).
The kids liked the treat of homemade ice cream sundaes after lunch. Yum!
Building Workshops
We are so thrilled that Lowe's and Home Depot are doing kids' bulding workshops again since their COVID haitus. The boys are no longer interested in the events, but Adley loves the building process. She is getting quite good at hammering in nails all by herself. This month's Home Depot project was a very cool camper-trailer. So fun!
The Lowe's project was a racecar. Adley especially enjoys the free chips and drink she receives at the end of this workshop! The car was pretty fun to play with too. ;)
My sister passed along a couple old kits from Lowe's that Adley was able to do at home. This kit created a little space-themed game. Adley had just as much fun playing the game as she did building it! Each time she completes a project, she enjoys the patches we can add to her Lowe's apron as well.
Salem Kids Game Night
In early August, the Kids Ministry from our church hosted a family game night. We played a variety of board games, the card game Buzz, and several rounds of Bingo. We enjoyed some yummy snacks too!
Axe Throwing
The women's ministry program at our church had a cool event this month-- axe throwing! Most of us had never done anything like it before, so it was fun to learn together. We enjoyed the evening laughing, sipping some wine, eating yummy snacks, and of course, aiming for bulls-eyes!
Worship Leading
Over the past few years, the first Sunday in August at our church has become a sort of kids' service. Our summer kids' choir sings, and individual kids lead various portions of the worship service. Cody was honored to be asked to lead the benediction blessing at the end of the service. He took his role seriously and practiced several times with Jason. On that Sunday, he spoke very clearly and did an excellent job! We were proud of his willingness to lead.
Tea Party Birthday
Shortly before school started, Adley was invited to this adorable birthday party with some of her sweet playgroup friends. The girls were all encouraged to dress up for a special tea party. They enjoyed donuts, kolaches, fruit, and milk in teacups.
Then, they received a mini tea set, one that could be used for dolls, and were able to paint it. It was a little tricky painting all the tiny cups and saucers, but the set turned out super cute!
Then the girls had a little "glam session!" Adley is not much of a girly-girl at home and has always refused to let me paint her nails, so I wasn't sure what she'd think of this portion of the party. She was motivated by her friends, however, and jumped right into the make-up application, the hair gems, and yes, even the finger painting and fingernail stickers! It was so fun to watch the girls getting dolled up... and even accessorizing each other at times!
Don't these girls look so precious!? What a fun little party, celebrating Adley's friend JoJo! Not surprisingly, on the way home, Adley took out all of her hair gems, removed her fingernail stickers, and asked to change out of her dress. As soon as we got home, she wanted me to take ALL the nail polish off. Ha! I'm glad she had fun getting dolled up for at least a little while!
Meeting the Newest Schleicher
What a joy it was to meet our newest little family member-- another Schleicher GIRL--at the end of August! Baby Selah Joy was born to Jason's youngest brother and his wife. What a sweetie!
Jason and I both were able to meet little Selah in the hospital on two separate days.
The kids and I went over to Jon and Chelsea's house once Selah was about a week old. The kids loved the chance to hold their new baby cousin.
What a fun, full month!
