Time in San Antonio

The day after Thanksgiving, our family took a road trip to San Antonio. Our main goal was to make use of our Six Flags season pass before the end of the calendar year. We enjoyed re-riding some of the kids' favorite rides in Six Flags as well as trying out some new ones. Adley was most comfortable sticking with the "kiddie rides," so our family was split for most of the day. Jason and I took turns with either Adley or the boys.

Jaden and Cody convinced me to go on one of the thrill rides, Superman, and we all ended up loving it!

A big reason we picked this timeframe to visit Six Flags was so we could see The Majesty of Christmas performed at the park. This live musical show presented the nativity story with flying angels and real animals (camels, sheep, donkeys). It was very impressive! We loved that this Six Flag location took a bold stand to celebrate Jesus' birth in such a public venue.

The park was decorated all over with lighted Christmas displays and even lighted fountains. We loved the festive atmosphere.

Originally, we had planned on going to the park for a second day as well, but we woke up to cloudy skies and a light drizzle of rain. We knew that Six Flags closed down most of their rides in rainy weather, so we opted for a different form of entertainment on our second day in San Antonio. Instead, we visited the Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch, a drive-through zoo just outside of town. Our family had visited this site once before, when Jaden and Cody were in preschool. They had no recollection of our visit, however, so it was a perfect time to go again.

This drive-through zoo is such a fun tourist spot. Because the weather was cool and slightly drizzly when we arrived, hardly anyone else was visiting. We could stop our van and spend as much time as we wanted feeding the animals. The kids loved this place! We had both an ostrich and a zebra poke their heads into our van along our drive-through. So exciting!

Not all the animals approached our vehicle, but it was still enjoyable seeing the park's wide variety of animals from a distance. We learned that the wildlife ranch contains 45 different species of animals! We saw impala, antelope, wildebeest, rhea, kudu, bison, gemsbok oryx, emu, and more. It reminded us of the creative Creator-God we have!

These active zebras were full of personality and were our family's highlight!

Right before the park's exit, visitors can park and tour the Walk-a-Bout section. Here, we saw various birds, monkeys, lemurs, and giraffes.

What a fabulous time in San Antonio!
