A few weeks ago, our nearby Children's Museum hosted an Alice in Wonderland themed event called the Mad Hatter's Tea Party. The boys and I attended along with Kim, Ryan, and Nathan. The tea party was very kid friendly and well-organized. One of the first things Cody and Jaden wanted to do was to get their faces painted. I'm happy they chose to do this early as the line got really long later on. The museum staff offered only three options for face painting. Cody chose a cat, and Jaden chose the rabbit. The third option was the Queen of Hearts.
When our numbers were called, we were invited into the tea room. The tables were set up in such a fancy way. Many of the young girls at the museum were wearing frilly princess dresses. So cute!
At the tea party, we met the White Rabbit, Alice, the Mad Hatter...
...and the Queen of Hearts. When the Queen walked by our table, she said, "If those cookies aren't any good, I'll tell the kitchen staff, 'Off with your heads!'" I don't think Jaden and Cody understood the literacy connection behind her comment, but they still thought it was hilarious.
The staff handed out LARGE sugar cookies for each child and gave them pre-cut baggies filled with frosting.
The kids used small wooden spoons to spread out their frosting.
And then came the best part-- decorating the cookies with sprinkles! Last year, the sprinkles were stored in a container that easily dumped out TONS of sprinkles. This year, the staff wisely put the sprinkles in tiny salt shakers. I loved Cody's decorating strategy of using two shakers at once.
The boys poured themselves some "tea" (or lemonade) to go along with their cookies.
And then it was finally time to devour these enormous cookies. Yum!
After the tea party, we enjoyed playing in various exhibits around the museum. It's strange to see that Cody, Ryan, and Jaden are now among the older museum patrons! These three together built a "fish house" at the block station.
We also spent more time than normal at the train table.
When it was time to go home, Cody buckled himself in and said he was ready to take us all home.
