Creekfest

At the beginning of October, Kim, Chelsea and I took our boys to Creekfest, a free one-day arts festival sponsored by the chamber of commerce. We had attended last year too and really enjoyed the activities. Jaden and Cody didn't seem to remember the event from last year but had a wonderful time. We started out by getting face painting (or arm painting, in Jaden's case).

This year, we spent the majority of our time doing outdoor activities. We were impressed with all the varieties of art projects they had. Jaden and Cody stopped at this table to do a Native-American style "bark painting." They first had to trace a figure onto brown paper and then decorate it with paint.

Both boys particularly fell in love with the Q-tip painting. :)

Next the boys painted flower pots. Even little Isaiah and Nathan got in on this craft. Cody and Jaden's flower pots are currently being put to good use at home as containers for their current acorn collection.

As we walked by this booth, this lady from a local gym stopped the boys and asked if they would do jumping jacks in order to win prizes. She didn't have to ask twice! She challenged the boys to do a certain number (I think it was 40) in one minute. Even though it took our crew longer than the allotted time, they all finished their 40 jumping jacks (or random jumps and kicks that bear a small resemblance to a jumping jack), so each of the boys got to pick a small prize. This lady made a good personal trainer. :)

Then we visited a dental clinic booth and won a prize pack for throwing bean bags through the board of missing teeth.

This station made all of us laugh. It was a local group (I don't even recall their organization's name) that wanted to educate people on the importance of picking up after their dogs. So, our job was to toss these bags of dog droppings (actually soft playdough) into the waste bucket. All the boys who did so won a treat and some free doggie waste bags.

A big highlight for all the boys, I believe, was riding this train.

Our last stop was at the petting zoo. Cody was a little intimidated by some of the bigger animals but I think he willingly pet all of them as long as I was standing nearby. He felt most comfortable petting the small pigs.

We all enjoyed our full morning of being outside!

  1. What fun memories we are making together! I'm totally going to steal your idea of using the clay pots as acorn containers. Smart! That will keep our collections in one area! :)
