Walquist Kid Pics

For Dad's retirement, my sister and brother and I worked together to create a book of memories to give to our parents. Over Christmastime, the three of us found some of our favorite old-time pictures from when we were kids. Then, we recreated the pictures-- the setting, our outfits, expressions, and all. It took way more effort than we anticipated but was so enjoyable!

Our main theme of the book was that even though families change and grow, God's love remains the same. Our Heavenly Father lovingly carries us through all of life's changes. We read this book aloud as our speech for Dad's retirement celebration and displayed each pair of pictures on a powerpoint. The audience seemed to get a kick out of these photos!

The Walquist Kids Playing Doctor
This picture taught us how difficult it was to get the background setting just right! My mom actually still had this play bed in her attic but, of course, fitting Andrew inside it again wasn't going to happen. We ended up leaning the headboard and baseboard on a piano bench that Andrew sprawled out over, and it worked!

The Walquist Family Circle
This was the set of photos that looked most similar, in my opinion. Other than Andrew with his facial hair, the rest of us don't look too different!

The Forgotten Child Photo
No one could answer exactly why Kim was covered over with a blanket in this picture below. Even more amusing is why she chose not to say anything about it. Hilarious! This was definitely a funny one to recreate.

The Kiss
Unfortunately the tree in the background of this picture looks totally different these days, so we chose an entirely new background for this shot. However, I was quite proud that I still owned the exact same black floral dress. I found the dress, now over 15 years old, in the deep recesses of my closet. Who knew that I'd need it for such a time as this?! :)

The Laundry Basket
In addition to the background settings, we tried to get our positions just right. This one was a bit awkward for all 3 of us! Poor Andrew just doesn't fit in a laundry basket like he used to. :)

Easter
The windy day revealed our shortcut move... the pinned lace on our dresses didn't remain in place quite as well in the wind! Recreating the early 90's tall, curly bangs was a bit of a challenge too.

The Piano
This one still makes me laugh out loud each time I see it. :)

Halloween #1
We knew Kim was fully committed to this project when she agreed to be painted with tempera paint!

The Birthday Cake
This photo was our first group shot re-creation. It's my favorite set of photos from our whole photo shoot. :)

Halloween #2
Would you let either of these sets of trick or treaters come to your door on Halloween?

Tummy Time
Since Andrew was the littlest in all of these pictures, he usually had the most random outfits or positions to re-create. This one is no exception. I think his expressions in every picture are the greatest!

Kudos go to Kim for her great idea to take these pictures in the first place! It was definitely a crazy sibling adventure putting these all together. :)
