Meeting Baby Nathan

Our family was SO excited recently to hear about the birth of the boys' newest cousin-- Baby Nathan! Before Thanksgiving, our siblings Matt and Kim were blessed with their 3rd child. We couldn't wait to meet this new little Texan! In early December, we embarked on a combo road/plane trip to see Baby Nathan (and his family too).

On our drive to Denver, Jaden and Cody were awesome travelers! It probably helped that this was our first road trip since turning around their carseats. The boys love facing forward now and watching all the action. Their favorite car-activity by far was reading books. Once, they listened to Mommy read stories for a 45-minute stretch. What a great way to pass the time! Here the boys enjoy some noisy toys.

Sheridan, Wyoming is always a must-stop in our travel. This town has a rest area with an awesome little playground. It's a perfect way to stretch our legs after a couple hours in the car.

It was a very pleasant December day for travel. Notice our light-weight jackets!

Once in Denver, we stayed overnight with our family friends, the Davises. They were such gracious hosts with a beautiful, spacious home and (most importantly) an understanding attitude of 2-year-olds!

A family photo attempt in their yard-- the sun was SO bright!

Then, we were off to the Denver airport. We saved nearly $1200 in ticket prices by flying out of Denver (hence our 10-hour road trip to reach the airport!). Jaden and Cody hadn't flown on an airplane in over a year, so they were very excited to watch the planes from the terminal.

Driving cars along the window ledges was also a great way to pass the time!

We talked to the boys a LOT about our travel plans so that they'd know what to expect. This video shows them sharing some of the details about our trip.

Once on the plane, Jaden and Cody tried out the seats. This was their first flight not as lap children. The boys seemed to find comfort in closeness in this new situation. :)

Before the plane took off, we convinced the boys to sit in their own seats (I'm pretty sure that some bribing-by-snacks was involved.). They were very curious about the plane's movements during take-off and enjoyed glancing out the window occasionally, too. Both boys handled the flight VERY well. They read more stories, played with cars, drew a little bit, had more snacks, watched a video, and even took a brief nap on Mommy and Daddy's lap. We were quite proud of their travel attitudes (and honestly a bit surprised by how smooth it was!).

One of the best things about this plane flight was that it was DIRECT!
I don't remember the last time that I've flown without having a layover. How wonderful it was! We arrived in Texas just in time for a late dinner. Of course, our first priority was snuggle-time with our new little nephew, Nathan Paul.

Nathan was such a gentle, cuddly little guy! He cozied right up to us and cried very little during our visit.

Cody and Jaden had been talking about and praying for Baby Nathan for weeks, so they were very ready to meet him. They seemed to be quite fascinated with "Baby Nannan," as they affectionately called him.

Both boys were surprisingly gentle with their newest little cousin. Jaden especially loved rubbing Nathan's back and patting him on the head or tummy. He was definitely our little baby-lover!

Isn't this little guy so precious? What a miracle and gift from God you are, Baby Nathan!
